We are dedicated to creating a diverse, inclusive, and respectful academic community. In response to recent events and the ongoing conflict in the region, we firmly believe it is crucial to declare our support for the Palestinian people, who continue to endure significant hardships and injustices.
We unequivocally support Palestinian human rights and the pursuit of peace, justice, and dignity for all individuals affected by the conflict. Our support for Palestine is rooted in our core values of compassion, equality, and human rights for all people, irrespective of their background or beliefs.
However, it is crucial to distinguish between support for human rights and the endorsement of hate or violence. Therefore, we also unequivocally denounce all forms of Islamophobia and antisemitism. Islamophobia and antisemitism are fundamentally opposed to our values and the principles of mutual respect and understanding that we strive to uphold at Birkbeck’s Students’ Union.
Our commitment to fighting hate and bigotry in all its forms means we stand against any actions or rhetoric that seeks to divide our community or target individuals based on their religion or ethnicity. We call on all members of our community to join us in rejecting discrimination and to work together to promote a culture of inclusivity and respect.
In these challenging times, we encourage open dialogue, education, and mutual support. Let us stand together in our commitment to human dignity, peace, and justice for all.
