As a student-elected representative, you will work closely with academic leaders and student representatives to shape policies and foster a positive learning environment.
Purpose of the Role
- Act as the face of the Students’ Union, representing student interests in educational matters.
- Support and empower Course Representatives and Academic Representatives to address and resolve academic issues.
- Collect and act on feedback from students to ensure their voices influence university policies and initiatives.
- Participate in university committees and panels to elevate the student perspective.
Key Responsibilities

Representation:
- Advocate for student needs in meetings with university leaders and committees.
- Collaborate with Course Representatives and Academic Representatives to address educational challenges.

Initiatives and Campaigns:
- Create and implement initiatives to improve the academic and overall student experience.
- Lead campaigns and organize events to engage students and address educational concerns.

Community Building:
- Develop a sense of community among Birkbeck students through networking opportunities and Union activities.
- Foster connections between students and their representatives.

Governance:
- Serve as a Trustee of the Students’ Union, contributing to its strategy, financial oversight, and organizational decisions.
- Provide regular activity reports to the Student Parliament and Trustee Board.

Accountability and Professionalism:
- Work professionally and maintain visibility at key Union events and activities.
- Dedicate 21 hours per week to the role, including attending essential meetings.
Eligibility
To stand for this role, candidates must:
- Be a current Birkbeck student at the time of the election.
